NEW SINGLE "GOODBYE" OUT NOW!

Michael Lington may not have written “Goodbye,” the richly soulful, deeply passionate third single from his On the Scene EP, but it’s one of the most personal recordings of the Billboard #1 charting saxophonist’s nearly three-decade career as a recording artist and premiere force in contemporary jazz. Co-produced by Lington and David Mann, and featuring an All-Star rhythm section of Michael White, Alex Al and Michael Thompson, the track is a sensual and soaring re-imagining of a lesser known but still essential cut from David Sanborn’s classic Marcus Miller-produced 1988 album Close Up.Citing the late saxophone legend’s later 80’svibe as a key influence in his decision to move from Copenhagen to the U.S. to pursue a career as a sax player and artist, Lington shares a powerhouse performance that’s reverential to Sanborn’s original, but makes his own emphatic statement, and is a fond farewell to Sanborn. Since Sanborn’s passing in May 2024, Lington has made “Goodbye” a staple of his live performances, making the unsung masterpiece a true crowd pleaser and emotional peak of the show. One of those memorable performances was with Miller at one of the shows in the first season of Lington’s Sax to Soul exclusive concert series. As a companion piece, Lington is also releasing an intimate music video of “Goodbye”, filmed at the legendary “The Village“ recording studio in Los Angeles.

“'Goodbye' is a deeply personal song to me — it’s my heartfelt tribute to my musical hero, the late, great David Sanborn. Originally his song, I re-recorded it in a way that truly resonates with my own journey and emotions” - Michael Lington

NEW SINGLE "DREAMY NIGHT" OUT NOW!

With the drop of “Dreamy Night,” the jangly, vibey and playfully grooving second single from Michael Lington’s new EP On the Scene, the Boys from “South Bay” are back! At the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024, over a quarter century into his storied, hit-filled career, the saxophonist’s smash “South Bay” became one of the longest running #1 songs (7 consecutive weeks) on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay chart. Creating fresh, infinitely fun and hip magic with the same team - co-writer Shane Theriot (keyboards, bass, guitars, drum programming) and co-writer mega-producer Paul Brown (lead guitar, percussion) - Lington is back again with a sonic adventure fusing his passionate trademark sax dynamics with an unstoppable pulsating drive. While “South Bay” strutted along with one of Brown’s classic straightforward electric guitar solos, here the versatile Grammy winner adds a different mystique to the track with an irresistible tremolo sound that feels, perfectly in line with the song title, like it breezed out of a sexy romantic dream. “Dreamy Night” follows on the heels of the recent chart success of the EP’s funk-driven title track “On the Scene.”
